To facilitate the conservation and promotion of Meelup Regional Park whilst encouraging community participation and education that ensures the long-term sustainability of the Park’s unique plants, animals and landscape.

The Friends of Meelup (FOM) was founded in 2018 to lift the profile of the Park, foster community engagement, raise funds and assist with research projects to ensure the future of Meelup Regional Park.

Meelup Regional Park is an area of outstanding natural beauty, high biodiversity values and home to many endangered plants and animals. However, this region has consistently come under threat from development. Since 1981, local residents have worked together to stop harbours being built, prevent sand mining and a marina and property development. Proposals continued until a Council referendum to stop development was picked up by State Parliament. The reserves that were to become Meelup Regional Park were gazetted as A Class reserves in 1993 and the Park was officially formed in 1995.

Meelup Regional Park still faces threats from nature and humans. Phytophthora dieback, bushfires, feral animals and weeds still jeopardise our Park. Local residents and visitors can also impact the Park through uncontrolled access, bringing in pets and damaging vegetation. We need to protect our Park.

As a member of the Friends of Meelup you will:

• Contribute to preserving, protecting and enhancing the experience for those visiting and using the facilities of the Park
• Have the opportunity to become a volunteer and support projects
• Be invited to member events, and
• Receive updates of what is happening in the Park.

Definitions

ORDINARY MEMBERSHIP - 1 VOTE PER ACCEPTED APPLICATION AND FEE PAID

• Adult (over 18 years of age)
• Ordinary Member – two adults living at the same address
• Family Member – two adults (two ordinary members) living at the same address and their offspring (Junior or Student Members) who are financially dependent on the adult member/s and at school or university.

ASSOCIATE MEMBER

• Life Member: Accorded to someone who has made an outstanding or significant contribution to the Friends of Meelup or Meelup Regional Park over a period of time. One vote.
• Affiliated member (Not for Profit Groups): By invitation to associations or organisations that support the purpose and objectives of Friends of Meelup. No voting rights.
• Junior Member: under 18 years of age

Every member receives an annual update, an invitation to Fellowship Dinner, Meelup Picnic and offered the opportunity to donate or bequeath.
